A 21-year-old man from Southfield has been charged with the murder of his older brother following a shooting that occurred inside their shared residence this week. Breylon Roberts is facing charges of first-degree premeditated murder and felony firearm in connection with the death of Trey Cameron Roberts, who was 23 years old at the time of his death.

According to prosecutors, the alleged incident took place on Monday afternoon. Authorities state that Breylon Roberts shot his brother multiple times while they were inside the home. The victim, Trey Cameron Roberts, was found later that day by his minor sister. She discovered his body and contacted emergency services after Breylon Roberts had returned to the residence.

Police responded to the scene on Dorset Avenue near Southfield Road at approximately 3:00 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located a man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators conducted a thorough search of the interior of the home and recovered several spent 9mm shell casings. Breylon Roberts was taken into custody at the time of the police response.

Surveillance evidence played a significant role in the initial investigation. Nearby security footage reportedly recorded the sound of 17 distinct gunshots shortly after 12:46 p.m. Additional video allegedly captured Breylon Roberts leaving the property and driving away in a vehicle following the shooting.

Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren described the case as deeply painful for the community and the family involved. He stated that the loss of one brother at the hands of another is heartbreaking. Chief Barren expressed the department's commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and working closely with the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office to ensure justice and accountability for the family.

Prosecutor Karen McDonald emphasized the tragic nature of the event, noting that the victim was killed in his own home. She stated that a home should be a place where a person feels safest, yet Trey Cameron Roberts was allegedly killed by someone he should have felt secure with. McDonald added that the case serves as a stark reminder of the permanent consequences that can result from the use of firearms.

If Breylon Roberts is found guilty of the charges, he could face a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The legal proceedings are expected to move forward with the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office leading the case against the defendant.

The incident has drawn attention to the dynamics within the family and the circumstances surrounding the shooting. While the investigation is ongoing, the initial charges reflect the severity of the alleged premeditation and the use of a firearm in the commission of the crime.

Local officials have expressed their condolences to the Roberts family as they process the loss. The community is now focused on the legal process that will determine the future of the accused and provide closure for the victim's loved ones.
