Cuyahoga Falls residents and visitors will walk a new three-quarter mile route along the Cuyahoga River starting Saturday, Oct. 24. The city is launching the project after a construction period that lasted more than a year.

The grand opening combines the RiverLoop with improvements to South Front Street. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Downtown Pavilion and Plaza at 2085 Front St. Mayor Don Walters will guide a tour of the new infrastructure at noon. The total cost for the combined projects is $7.1 million.

Construction crews replaced the lower wooden boardwalk with a new foundation and fresh lumber. Above that level, a wider concrete walkway now connects the water to the shops. This upper path meets accessibility standards for people with disabilities. The route also features scenic overlooks, public art, and a stage that faces the river.

Walters described the stage area as a space that was previously underutilized. He noted that the area can hold more than 100 people. "It's absolutely gorgeous right along the river," Walters said. "I like to think we have the best downtown in the region. This just adds more to it."

Business owners on Front Street expect the new path to increase foot traffic. Nathan Walden, who operates Hope Soap, makes products by hand in his store. He said the renovation could bring more customers to the area. "We've definitely seen an uptick in it I think in the last couple of years, and obviously, I think this is really going to be a game-changer," Walden said.

The route includes 10 informational stops about local wildlife and river history. QR codes at each location provide additional details. Walters pointed out that the water eventually flows to Niagara Falls and the Atlantic Ocean. Guest speakers will join the noon tour to discuss the project's features.

Visitors can pick up maps or explore independently. City staff and construction team members are expected to attend, and light refreshments will be served. Walters will also officiate a wedding at a venue within the RiverLoop during the event. Walters said the attraction is designed for year-round use.
