Jimmy Webb is set to perform the song 'Up, Up and Away' in a new installment of the Passport series. The segment is part of an extended library of arts content available to members of the public media network.
The episode features a diverse lineup of performers. It includes pianist Dmitry Yudin, who moved from Moscow to the United States to join his older sister. Violinist Nathan Meltzer also appears, recalling learning his instrument while attending elementary school in Vienna.
Other featured musicians include cellist Leland Ko and violinist Allison Taylor. Taylor traveled to India, where she discovered gaps in her knowledge of her own instrument. The lineup also includes bassoonist Eleni Katz, who performed with the New World Symphony.
The series profiles several artists who won the 2024 Avery Fisher Career Grant Award. These recipients include violinist Julian Rhee, the Balourdet Quartet, violinist Njioma Chinyere Grevious, the Sandbox Percussion group, and pianist Clayton Stephenson.
Theater performances are a central component of the new content. Actor Robert 'Silk' Mason is shown making his Broadway debut. Luke Evans returns to the stage for a production of 'The Rocky Horror Show.' Marla Mindelle is featured as the star and co-creator of 'Titaníque.'
Additional theater segments follow Tony nominees Daniel Dae Kim and Andrew Durand. Jasmine Amy Rogers is also profiled as she prepares for a major role. Conductor Gemma New leads an orchestra with an emphasis on collective musical experience.
The episode includes a look at a production at London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane. It also features a drag queen who won RuPaul's Drag Race and is currently working on Broadway. The broadcast allows viewers to watch these performances through the Passport member benefit.
