Milton is holding three distinct ceremonies to mark Remembrance Day this November.
The poppy campaign launched on Oct. 24, with donation boxes placed in local businesses to allow residents to participate throughout the week.
The first event is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Soldiers’ Memorial in Haltonville. A parade will begin at 1:45 p.m. on Amos Drive and proceed to the Haltonville Cenotaph on 15 Side Road. A wreath laying is planned at the monument located at Guelph Line and 15 Side Road.
On Sunday, Nov. 8, the downtown service will take place at the Victoria Park Cenotaph. The procession starts at 1:30 p.m. from the Milton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Officials noted this may be the final ceremony held at this specific location before a major upgrade. A new $40,000 veteran’s monument has been approved for construction alongside the existing cenotaph, with completion expected in 2027. Refreshments will be available in the legion club room after the service.
The traditional Remembrance Day Parade occurs on Wednesday, Nov. 11, beginning at the Milton Evergreen Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Attendees are advised to arrive early due to limited parking near the site. The Veterans’ Luncheon follows at the legion banquet hall, with doors opening at noon and the meal starting at 1 p.m. Tickets for the luncheon cost $15 per person and are available in the legion club room until Nov. 1.
