400 votes separated Kelceymarie Warner from incumbent Republican Ryan Davidson in the Ada County Commission District 1 race. As of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Warner leads with 50.1% of the total vote, while Davidson holds 49.9%. Ada County officials confirmed that 100% of precincts have been counted in the contest.
Warner, who works in a maternal health program, will become the first Democrat to serve on the Ada County Commission since Kendra Kenyon left office in early 2023. Kenyon opted not to run for reelection. Davidson previously defeated Democrat Diana Lachiondo in 2020 and won reelection for a two-year term in 2024. Warner also ran unsuccessfully for the Garden City City Council last year.
In another closely watched contest, incumbent Republican Commissioner Rod Beck retained his seat. He defeated Democratic challenger Michael Fitzgerald by a margin of 594 votes. Both candidates recorded identical vote shares of 50.1% and 49.9%, respectively, making it one of the tightest results in the countywide elections.
Former Ada County Coroner Dotti Owens is on track to retake the position. The Democrat currently holds a lead of 3,718 votes over Republican challenger Brett Harding. Owens lost the seat four years ago to Republican Richard D. Riffle, who decided not to seek reelection this cycle. Owens previously served in the role from 2015 until early 2023.
Idaho election law allows candidates who lose by 0.1% or less to request a recount at public expense. None of the close races mentioned above fall within that specific threshold. Candidates may also fund a recount personally by posting a deposit covering the estimated cost. Requests must be submitted within 20 days of the election.
Other countywide positions remained with the Republican Party. Todd Christensen won the race for County Treasurer. Rebecca Arnold retained her seat as County Assessor. Trent Tripple secured the position of County Clerk without facing a challenger.
These results occur as national media attention focuses on Democratic gains across various statehouses. Despite Idaho’s solid reputation as a Republican-leaning state, these local outcomes place two Democrats back into countywide office, altering the balance of power in Ada County government.
