Apple TV Expands 'Ascension' Cast With Plummer, Chung, and Miller

Apple TV has confirmed three new series regulars for 'Ascension,' the upcoming drama from director Alfonso Cuarón. Amanda Plummer, Christopher Chung, and T'Nia Miller have joined the production, according to information shared with Variety. The network has not yet revealed specific character details for the three performers.

Plummer is recognized for her work in 'Run' and 'Butterfly Kiss.' Chung has appeared in 'Slow Horses' and 'My Brilliant Career,' while Miller is known for roles in 'The Haunting of Bly Manor' and 'VisionQuest.' These additions follow recent announcements that Bill Nighy will star in the project.

The series is based on 'Last Days,' a novel by Adam Nevill. Caitríona Balfe leads the cast as Rose, a documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother. The character description notes that she is skilled at uncovering the truths of others but struggles to resolve her own issues.

The narrative centers on Rose beginning work on a project regarding the Church of Ascension, a mysterious 20th-century cult. As she engages with the group, she finds refuge in its teachings before discovering a darker reality beneath the surface.

Alfonso Cuarón is co-writing the series with his brother Carlos Cuarón, Natalie Erika James, and Christian White. James and White, who previously collaborated on 'Relic' and 'Apartment 7A,' serve as co-showrunners. James will also direct the lead episodes.

All four writers are executive producers, as is Balfe. Cuarón executive produces through his Esperanto Filmoj banner, which holds an overall television deal with Apple. Gabriela Rodriguez and Richard Schwartz are also executive producers for Esperanto Filmoj. Steve Golin, David Levine, and Zack Hayden are executive producers for Anonymous Content, which is producing the show with Apple Studios.
