John Goodman to play Claire Danes' father in Netflix drama 'The Beast in Me'

John Goodman will play Jack, the father of the protagonist, in the second season of the Netflix drama 'The Beast in Me.' The casting news was released on October 28, 2026. This development confirms the series will move beyond its initial one-season format to continue the story of Aggie Wiggs.

The show first premiered after being picked up by Netflix in 2024. At that time, the project was officially designated as a limited series. It maintained that classification during its recent awards campaign. The show won the Emmy for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series. Matthew Rhys, who starred in the first season, won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series.

Netflix and the production team began looking into a second season following the first year's run. This approach mirrors the trajectory of other shows like 'Big Little Lies,' which also started as limited series before expanding. The creators opened a writers' room earlier this year to develop new material.

Claire Danes, who portrays Aggie Wiggs in the first season, is set to return for the second. The team kept plot details for the upcoming episodes confidential at the time of the announcement. Season 1 showrunner Howard Gordon will share showrunner duties with executive producer Daniel Pearle for the new season.

Gabe Rotter serves as the creator and an executive producer for the series. Danes will also executive produce in addition to acting. Goodman brings extensive experience to the role. He is an 11-time Emmy nominee and won the award for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2007 for 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.' He is well known for his long-running role as Dan Conner on 'Roseanne' and its sequel 'The Conners.' He has also starred in HBO's 'The Righteous Gemstones' and FX's 'Damages.' In film, he has worked with the Coen brothers on titles such as 'Raising Arizona' and 'The Big Lebowski,' and appeared in 'Argo' and 'Flight.'
