Ernie Johnson announced on Wednesday that the upcoming season will be his final run as host of Inside the NBA. The 70-year-old Sports Broadcasting Hall of Famer made the news via a social media post, explaining that he is choosing to step away from the show at the end of the current season.

Johnson clarified that this move is not a full retirement. He described the decision as a turning of the page rather than a final chapter, stating that he will continue to work in sports media. He plans to maintain his role covering the NCAA men’s basketball tournament for CBS and Turner Sports.

The six-time Sports Emmy winner addressed his health in the post. He acknowledged that he has dealt with heart issues in recent years but insisted that these conditions are not the primary reason for leaving the NBA studio. Instead, he said he simply wants to slow down a bit. He noted that the decision to leave is about timing, not a sudden end to his career.

Johnson joined Turner Sports in 1989 and has hosted the postgame show since 1990. In his message, he expressed gratitude to his production crews at TNT Sports and ESPN for their long-term support. He also directed a thank you to the audience for their loyalty and understanding during his transition.

The broadcaster emphasized that he will cherish the chapters written with the show. He concluded his announcement by thanking viewers for their love and support, marking the end of an era for the network's flagship basketball program.
