Boise State defeated Texas State 46-45 on Sunday, securing a win despite the early departure of their starting quarterback. The Broncos trailed significantly before Max Cutforth took over the offense and guided the team to a comeback victory.
Maddux Madsen started the game but threw an interception, allowing Texas State to build a commanding lead. After the team failed to convert on the following possession, Madsen was knocked out of the game. His departure ended a streak of passes without an interception and forced Boise State to rely on its backup.
Cutforth, a local player, responded by throwing three touchdown passes. He matched the intensity of the Texas State offense and showed improvement over the previous season. The Bobcats maintained a strong presence on the field, but Boise State's defense secured the final stop.
Texas State failed to convert on a fourth down play, giving Boise State possession on downs. The Broncos used the remainder of the game to run out the clock. The defensive performance was described as a display of determination, compensating for a pass defense that struggled and a running game that was less effective than in previous contests.
Rushing statistics reflected the challenge faced by the offense. Dylan Riley was limited to 86 yards on 25 carries by the Texas State defense. Freshman Rasean Jones led the team in the air, recording 117 receiving yards. He contributed to the scoring with several large catches and a touchdown.
There is no official update on Madsen’s availability for next week’s game or the remainder of the season. The coaching staff noted that it is too early to determine if the senior will return. The win marks a positive outcome for the Broncos, who are characterized as winners unlike their recent opponent, Oregon State.
