Public broadcasting networks serve as a central repository for American cultural history, offering viewers access to news, drama, and documentary content. On October 29, 2026, PBS updated its digital catalog to include a new feature film focused on the career of musician Bruce Springsteen.
The new title, 'Bruce Springsteen: Finding America in Song,' is now available for viewing on the Passport platform. This service functions as an extended library for members who support local public media through donations. The addition expands the variety of content available to subscribers beyond live news broadcasts.
The documentary joins a vast collection of previously aired specials and programs hosted on the platform. The library includes major political events, such as the 2026 State of the Union Address delivered by President Donald Trump. It also features coverage of the war with Iran, which was reported as a PBS News Special Report. These segments provide viewers with a record of recent national and international developments.
Beyond current events, the streaming service archives decades of political history. The collection includes footage from the 2019 Democratic debate held in December. That event was hosted by PBS NewsHour and POLITICO. The archive also contains recordings of the Trump impeachment trial, covering the first day of proceedings. Additional files document the 2012 Republican and Democratic National Conventions, which took place in Cleveland and Charlotte respectively.
The platform also houses long-form interviews and cultural programming. One such episode from the series 'Beyond the CANVAS' features novelist Margaret Atwood and playwright Danai Gurira. In that segment, the artists discuss the process of finding their voice and the courage required to reimagine the world through writing. This content sits alongside news coverage of primary elections, including the Iowa Caucus and the New Hampshire Primary.
Viewers can also access special reports on social issues through the library. One documentary examines the cycle of childhood trauma in rural Montana and its impact on millions of Americans. Another piece looks at how drug testing in Alabama affects former prisoners trying to start new lives. These programs offer a look at specific communities and the challenges they face.
The service also includes coverage of past presidential transitions and inaugurations. A special titled 'Celebrating America' covers a recent inauguration. The archive also holds the 2020 race and policing special, 'America in Black and Blue.' These programs provide context on how different administrations and social movements have unfolded over time.
The addition of the Springsteen documentary complements the existing news and drama offerings. Members can watch these titles as part of the benefit package for supporting public media. The platform continues to update with new specials, including live coverage of political addresses and retrospective documentaries on historical figures and events.
