Apple has scheduled an event for October 28 to introduce a fully redesigned MacBook Pro. The company has named the gathering "Pro and tell." Reports indicate the new model will not include a performance upgrade over the current lineup.
The redesign marks a physical departure from previous generations. The laptop is expected to be lighter and slightly thinner. It will feature an OLED display that supports touch input, a first for the MacBook Pro line. The screen will also replace the traditional notch with a Dynamic Island cutout.
Mark Gurman, cited by 9to5Mac, states the machine will use the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. These chips debuted nearly eight months ago. Consequently, the new hardware will offer the same processing speed as the models currently on sale.
Apple is reportedly skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips entirely. The company is fast-tracking the M7 Pro and M7 Max for release in 2027. This leaves the redesigned MacBook Pro launching in a gap between processor generations.
Pricing remains uncertain, though 9to5Mac suggests a starting price of $2,999. This would be a premium over the current models. The outlet noted that replacing the existing M5 series at the same price point is unlikely due to a current memory crisis.
A C2 cellular modem is a less certain possibility for the new device. Apple has not confirmed any of the rumored specifications. The October 28 event will determine how much of the reporting is accurate and how the company positions a machine with existing silicon against professional buyers who held off on the M5 series earlier this year.
