A 19-foot-8-inch vehicle from Tim Burton's 1992 film Batman Returns is set to go to auction on Monday, November 23, 2026. The sale, titled The Ultimate Batmobile Auction, will take place in Los Angeles and online. Organizers Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies expect the car to sell for between $5 million and $7 million. That figure could establish a new record for a Batmobile sold at auction.
The vehicle was designed by Carl Casper and built on two Chevrolet Impala chassis. It retains its original glossy black finish. The car also features a radio-controlled flaming exhaust system. These details remain intact from the production of the movie.
The auction includes other items from the Burton era. An original Batsuit and cowl from Batman Returns are part of the lot. A model of the Batmobile from Burton's 1989 Batman film is also up for bids. These pieces offer collectors a direct link to the director's specific vision for the character.
The event extends beyond Batman. The catalog includes props and costumes from other superhero films. Captain America's shield and War Machine's helmet from Avengers: Age of Ultron are listed. Superman's costume from Superman IV is also available for purchase. This mix of franchises aims to attract a wider audience of movie memorabilia buyers.
Catherine Williamson, managing director of Hollywood memorabilia for Julien's Auctions, described the event as a major moment. She stated that the auction spans the entire cinematic history of the Caped Crusader. She noted it represents a turning point for the Batman mythology and for global pop culture itself.
The auction will feature items from Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy as well. These newer entries sit alongside the vintage props from the early 1990s. The online bidding platform will allow participants to join the sale from anywhere.
