A 36-year-old woman from Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, died in the Bahamas after entering the water to save her two sons who were being carried by a strong current. The Royal Bahamas Police Force opened an investigation into the sudden death on Tuesday. The woman was snorkelling with her husband and their children near the southern point of Bimini island when the current moved the boys.

As the children drifted away, the mother swam toward them. She was subsequently swept away as well. The boys were pulled from the water and recovered. The woman was also rescued from the sea and brought to the North Bimini Ferry Dock. Officers at the nearby Alice Town police station were notified shortly after 10 a.m. that a woman was unresponsive at the dock.

Police responded to the scene and found that the woman had already been moved to a local clinic. A doctor pronounced her dead despite resuscitation efforts. The force stated that CPR was administered at the ferry dock before she was taken to the medical facility. The preliminary account was released by the police on social media.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said foul play is not suspected at this time. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. The UK Foreign Office confirmed its contact with local authorities. A spokesperson stated that officials are providing support to the family.

The incident took place during a family snorkel trip. The husband and the two sons were all present at the scene. The children were successfully retrieved from the water. The woman remained in the care of local medical staff until her death was confirmed.
