The Milwaukee Brewers ended a 44-year wait for a championship on Wednesday night by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 at Tropicana Field. The victory secured the franchise's first World Series title in its 58th season. Thousands of fans in the stands at the St. Petersburg venue erupted in celebration as the final out was recorded.

Jacob Misiorowski anchored the pitching staff with a dominant performance. The 24-year-old right-hander threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. He faced a right calf cramp that forced him to leave the mound, but he received a standing ovation from the Brewers' supporters. Misiorowski opened the game with 12 consecutive four-seam fastballs, topping out at 103 mph twice.

Cooper Pratt, who made his major league debut in June, provided the offensive spark. The rookie collected two hits and drove in two runs. He set a Series rookie record with six consecutive hits before hitting a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Pratt's performance followed a game-winning single in the extra-inning loss in Game 4, where he was 4 for 5.

William Contreras, named the World Series Most Valuable Player, hit an RBI double in the sixth inning. His hit extended the Brewers' lead to 3-0. Contreras had been a consistent threat throughout the postseason, contributing to the team's seven comeback wins in the playoffs.

Manager Pat Murphy led the team from the dugout. The 67-year-old manager, who survived a heart attack in 2020, emphasized the group's unity. He noted that the 2026 roster would be remembered for playing together rather than focusing on individual statistics. Murphy had previously won the National League Manager of the Year award in 2024 and 2025.

The Rays' hopes for a comeback ended in the ninth inning. Closer Trevor Megill retired Richie Palacios on a grounder to second base. Megill had allowed an RBI double to Chandler Simpson with two outs earlier in the frame, but the final out sealed the series. The Rays fell to 0-3 in their World Series history, joining only the Brooklyn Dodgers and Detroit Tigers as teams to lose their first three appearances.

The Brewers entered the series as the small-ball exemplars, scoring 32.1% of their runs on home runs, a major league low. Tampa Bay was second lowest at 34.4%. The teams combined for just four home runs in the five games. The Brewers led the majors with 103 regular-season wins and swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.

This championship marks a milestone for the franchise, which began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969. The previous attempt in 1982 ended in a Game 7 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Owner Mark Attanasio told fans from the postgame stage that Milwaukee had its world championship.

The outcome has implications for the league's financial structure. The Brewers and Rays finished with the 19th and 25th highest payrolls, respectively, making this the first Series since 1991 between teams in the bottom half of payrolls. A management lockout is expected to begin December 2, potentially affecting the 2027 season as owners push for a salary cap.
