Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan arrived in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, for a working visit. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation focused on economic and security matters.

Three ministers traveled with Tofan. They include Vladimir Bolea from Infrastructure and Regional Development, Anatolie Nosatîi from Defence, and Dorin Junghietu from Energy. The Moldovan government stated that Tofan will meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, the chair of the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the government, the talks will address bilateral relations, trade cooperation, regional security, and both nations' paths toward the European Union. Tofan and Koretskyi are also scheduled to participate in the Kyiv International Economic Forum. This event focuses on investment opportunities and growing economic ties between the two countries.

This visit follows recent diplomatic activity in late October. On October 14, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Tofan to discuss winter preparations and shared energy challenges. Two days earlier, on October 12, Tofan indicated he was considering purchasing natural gas from Ukraine for Moldova's domestic needs. He said he would address that issue during this trip.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has also weighed in on the regional situation. She stated that Moldova is ready to accept a new wave of refugees from Ukraine if the humanitarian situation worsens and more people begin to leave.

The agenda for the upcoming days includes the formal meetings with Ukrainian leadership and the joint participation in the economic forum in Kyiv.
