The interview comes amid a busy period for the network, which has recently aired various major political events. The network hosted the sixth Democratic debate in December 2019 alongside POLITICO. It also provided special coverage of the Iowa Caucus, the New Hampshire Primary, and the March 10 primary elections. A special segment titled "Celebrating America" marked the inauguration, while another special focused on race and policing in 2020.

Other programs featured in the lineup include "Beyond the CANVAS," where writers like Margaret Atwood and Danai Gurira discuss finding meaning in their work. The network also reported on childhood trauma in rural Montana and its impact on millions of Americans. Coverage of the Republican National Convention spanned multiple days in Cleveland, with specials aired by PBS NewsHour and NPR. Similarly, the Democratic National Convention in 2012 was covered over several days, with parts of the broadcast available in the library.

The impeachment hearings were covered extensively, with days one through four of the proceedings available for viewing. The final vote in the Trump impeachment trial was also recorded. Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris participated in a vice presidential debate that was included in the network's coverage. The channel also documented the 2012 Republican National Convention in Cleveland and the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta.

Special reports on historical events are also part of the archive, including a special on America remembering the events of September 11, 2001. State of the Union addresses from 2015 and 2013 were broadcast as special reports. The 2012 vice presidential debate was also available in full. President Barack Obama participated in a town hall conversation with Gwen Ifill in Elkhart, Indiana. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump held their first debate at Hofstra University, which was also part of the network's coverage.
