Apple TV subscribers in the United States can watch Formula 1 with Dolby Atmos audio starting this Friday, October 23, with the United States Grand Prix serving as the first race to use the format.
Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the change earlier in October, stating that Formula 1 coverage on Apple TV would gain Dolby Atmos support beginning with the Grand Prix weekend. Apple said the surround sound is intended to place viewers in the middle of race weekend, covering team radio, commentary, engine noise, on-track battles, and pit lane activity. Apple also stated that pairing Dolby Atmos with Dolby Vision produces sound and visuals that put fans at the heart of the action.
First practice has concluded. Practice 2 is scheduled for Friday, October 23, at 5 p.m. ET. Practice 3 follows on Saturday, October 24, at 1:30 p.m. ET, with qualifying set for 5 p.m. ET that day. The race takes place on Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.
Apple will host a live screening of Sunday's race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. That store also hosted Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien on Friday for the launch of the iPhone Duo. Apple has expanded its Detailed City Experience to Austin in Apple Maps and added a map of the Circuit of The Americas that includes turn numbers, grandstands, 3D landmarks, and route information for the venue.
Apple TV is available for $14.99 per month or as part of the Apple One bundle. The service carries shows and movies including Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
