A memory card holding 388 uncounted ballots has appeared in Seminole County, Georgia. The discovery changes the outcome of a close state house race. The card contained data from voters who checked in on Election Day but were not initially tallied. The Georgia Secretary of State's office identified the gap during a post-election review.
The office found that 388 more voters were recorded as present at polling places than the number of ballots reported as cast. Officials notified the Seminole County Board of Elections of the discrepancy. The new count reverses the previous lead in District 154. Democrat Harry James had held a 58-vote advantage. With the recovered data, Republican incumbent Gerald Greene now leads by 262 votes.
Brad Raffensperger's office launched an investigation into the error. The probe will determine how the memory card was missed. It will also check if required election procedures were followed. The office is assessing corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in future elections. The county has until Monday to certify its final election results.
WCTV and Atlanta News First reached out to the Seminole County Board of Elections on Friday afternoon. No one was available to provide comment. The investigation aims to clarify the specific steps that led to the oversight. The findings may influence how the county handles future electoral processes.
